Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Techniques du Théâtre (ENSATT), France

L’ENSATT is a three-year programme teaching the various professions that contribute to theatre arts. The course is taught by practicing professionals. The department of Conception Sonore (Sound Design) comprises about thirty teachers with very diverse approaches, allowing the students to work in all areas of sound practice: directing, engineering or creative, on their own or in a team.

The students become specialists in sound – recording voice and sound effects, creating soundtracks, recording in the theatre, even “correcting” a theatre performance through its sound in order to guide and inspire the stage directors.

In addition to a career in the theatre, the training gives graduating students access to a variety of professions involving sound – live sound for events, concerts and performances, museum and gallery exhibitions, theatre technology – and opens the door to the wide range of sound practice in media – websites, cds, video art, games, animated film, radio and audiovisual productions.
