Martin Parker

Dr Martin Parker, Senior Lecturer in Sound Design

I think sound is at its best when you know what you’re doing but you don’t know what’s going to happen. I explore this idea across my work in composition, improvisation and sonic art by experimenting with sound technologies, people and places. I have been programme director of the MSc Sound Design, since it was founded at the University of Edinburgh in 2003. This is a highly innovative programme of postgraduate-level study that spans sound-related activities across the spectrum; film, game and interactive audio with a performative approach to the use of new and emerging technologies. I supervise research PhDs in areas of creative music practice, composition and the sonic arts.
