Michel Schöpping (1957) graduated with a master’s degree in Musicology at the Utrecht University. He worked as a Music teacher, was conductor of several choirs and played in a Jazz trio. Since 1978 he is composer, sound designer and re-recording mixer for feature – and documentary film.
From 2004 until now, Michel specializes in sound design for international arthouse films (Documentary and Fiction). He works with directors like Sergei Loznitsa, Felix van Groeningen, Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, Victor Kossakovsky and Fien Troch.
Michel directed a couple of documentary films, such as ‘The Third Ear’ (with Mart Dominicus) and ‘A Minha Casa’ (with Leendert Pot) and worked as a trainer at the Torino Film Lab (2009 and 2010) and the European Postproduction Connection (EP2C: Brussels 2010, Warsaw 2011, Cologne 2012, Brussels 2013, Vienna 2014). He was lecturer at the Film Sound Seminar for the Gent Film Festival 2012 and gave master classes at Luca School of Arts in Brussels (2015, 2016).
Since 2007 Michel is senior lecturer at the Netherlands Film Academy (NFA).
